STEP 7 INSULATION

There are two types of insulation to consider: thermal and acoustic insulation. First of all thermal, what kind of temperatures will you be dealing with? Are you going to the mountains or to the beach?

  • There are many options when it comes to thermal insulation. Reflection, spray foam, armaflex, sheep’s wool etc. Spray foam is cheap and works well but gets messy quickly. Reflexive is easy to work with, but you have to make sure you apply it correctly or it’s useless. Armaflex is light and easy to use. Sheep’s wool is more expensive but has a high r-value and is a natural product. You want to keep the humidity low so that no rust and other nasty things occur.
  • You can find Armaflex on amazon, but also on marketplace. The webshop groenebouwmaterialen has several good options for sheep’s wool.
  • Keeping a small space between the bus and the insulation creates an extra layer, so better insulation (same as double windows).

Second, soundproofing is your friend! When you are driving, you still want to be able to enjoy the ride, listen to music or talk to your travel buddy. This will certainly help.

  • You don’t always need soundproofing. It depends on the type of insulation you choose. Therefore, read the most important elements of your choice of insulation carefully.
